Employee Spotlight: Elvia Baca, EIT

In the short time Elvia has been with Brooker Engineering, she has proven herself to be an integral member of the Structural Engineering Department. Her enthusiasm and positive attitude is welcomed and much appreciated!

In her own words:

State your job description:

I’m a staff engineer in training working in the structural department.

What do you enjoy most about working for Brooker Engineering?

I love the diversity of work we have, it creates great learning opportunities for new engineers, such as myself. I really love the staff here, anywhere you look you can find a friendly person who is willing to help you and teach you. I also love that Brian gives young engineers opportunities to work with him which become great learning experiences. Even though I’ve only been working here for 5 months I already feel a sense of belonging.

What are your interests/hobbies outside of work?

Spend time with my family, build puzzles, play guitar, practice Tae Kwon Do and watch live Bon Jovi concerts from the 80s.

Employee Spotlight: Ben Levitz, EIT

Ben is a 28 year old (his birthday is today!) Project Engineer who is currently working in the Structural Department. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering, where his Master’s thesis involved creating numerical simulations for internal building pressures for tornadoes. Happy Birthday, Ben and thank you for your commitment to excellence for the past 2+ years!

 

In his own words: 

State your job description:  I am a Staff Engineer, which entails designing a building’s superstructure for vertical and lateral loads, creating construction drawings, reviewing shop fabrication drawings, and resolving issues with construction in the field.

 

What do you enjoy most about working at Brooker?  I enjoy the broad range of structure types that I have been able to work on (such as concrete masonry, steel, light gauge steel, concrete, etc.).

 

What are your interests/hobbies outside of work?  My interests outside of work are playing guitar, cooking, car repair and restoration, and hiking.

Employee Spotlight: Sasha Pokras, CAD Designer

Sasha has been with Brooker Engineering for 15 years and her areas of expertise range far beyond her job title of CAD designer. Her calm demeanor and get-it-done attitude make her a huge asset to the success of the company.

 

In her own words: 

What do you enjoy most about working at Brooker?

There is a genuine spirit of cooperation and shared goals.

I love that I have a great degree of control and freedom within my job. I work full-time on a flexible schedule, and my boss trusts me to produce high-quality work and results. I work hard to maintain that level of trust, which keeps me engaged and excited — but at the same time, I appreciate that my job enables me the time to enjoy my other passions in life. There is satisfaction in feeling a sense of accomplishment when I am up against a deadline. I’m encouraged to excel by having a boss that appreciates the work I do.

 

What are your interests/hobbies outside of work?

Travel, food :), skiing, hiking, biking (or just being outdoors), spending time with friends and family.  

 

Employee Spotlight: John “Buzz” Bezuyen, PLS

Did you know that there is much more to Brooker Engineering than just engineering?  One of the many services we offer is Land Surveying in NY and NJ, and the person who keeps this very busy department running is John “Buzz” Bezuyen. Buzz has been with the company for over 12 years. His personal commitment to quality and dedication to the job makes him an integral, and outstanding, employee.

State your job description:  I am the director of the Surveying Department. 

What do you enjoy most about working at Brooker?  My favorite thing about working here is the friendly atmosphere. 

What are your interests/hobbies outside of work? My interest outside of work is my two grandchildren. I enjoy working on model trains, which my grandchildren love to help with.
